WHAT CRITICS ARE SAYING

Nitz intertwines and then untangles relationships among the teens and guests, weaving a credible mystery for a wide adolescent audience. With clues and red herrings neatly scattered throughout, the book scores as a darned good little mystery. Intriguing, suspenseful fun. (Mystery. 12 & up)

Kirkus (September 1, 2010)

“Mystery fans will root for Jen and speculate away as they try to figure out what really happened...”

Booklist

Suspect is a short book at under 230 pages, but not a page is wasted. The author draws the reader right into story and starts the action immediately. There’s no dry backstory here as background details are nicely woven into the body of the tale as it proceeds. Everyone is a suspect, even the grandmother, and the reader is drawn into looking for clues in each character’s actions and motives...The story is sharp and lean; the writing is tight and focused.

New York Journal of Books

Nitz has created a strong female character, a distinctive setting and well-laid cles that will have the reader frantically turning the pages to figure out whodunit.

During one of my recent sick weeks, a wonderful new teen mystery kept me glued to the pages and enjoyably distracted. Suspect by Kristin Wolden Nitz is a classic whodunnit with some unique twists. Great Books for Kids and Teens

"If you’re looking for breezy mystery with an engaging setting and characters, then SUSPECT might just do the trick." Presenting Lenore

I've been known to say that there are not enough mysteries in YA lit. This is a book that is helping us get rid of this problem. The Ninja Librarian

"Kristin Wolden Nitz created a plot and characters that kept me guessing until the very last pages. I could hardly put the book down until I finished it off, which didn’t take very long at all. For mystery lovers and young adult readers this is definitely a book to put on your reading list, don’t miss out on a great read!" There's a Book

FROM A PAIR OF THOUGHTFUL AND VORACIOUS READERS WHO ALSO HAPPEN TO BE MY FRIENDS:

There aren't so many mysteries out there with teenage characters. This one takes a capable teenage girl and casts her in the middle of an intensely personal mystery she'd rather not be part of. Will she be the detective, or the victim? Sonderbooks

It hooked me and wouldn’t let go. I picked up this book while I was packing for a lakeside weekend. I planned to read it because the author is a personal friend. I did not plan on staying up until the wee hours of the morning to find out who the murderer was. Bookshelf: What We're Reading
